As part of our ongoing segment, get to know our COO and Co-Founder, Morgan Stempf. Morgan is responsible for day to day operations, account management, and serves as the yin to Jason’s yang. As we say in the Corus office, Jason has a bias to action and Morgan has a bias to thought. Enjoy!
- Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background
I grew up in the same community as Jason, our CEO [read more about Jason here], which provided the initial basis for partnering together (years later) to launch Corus. Between then and now I studied at Colorado College. After a stint in D.C. I returned once again to Colorado, where I currently live with my wife, Keila, and our son, Roosevelt.
- Why Corus? Why market research and consumer insight?
This is a field that’s at once mature yet also perennially subject to new developments in methodology and purpose – most often because of new technologies. I previously worked as a management consultant and was able to see, in many different contexts, how great the distance typically is between the promise of research and the actuality of its impact on commercial decision making. We have a tremendous opportunity at Corus to help fulfill this potential at a time when data-driven trends in management are especially resonant.
- If you’re not at work or home, where are you?
- What is something you’re passionate about and why?
Wilderness preservation – for my son’s generation and every generation that follows.
- If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
Someone I admire once advised me that the best way to live a life is to do so with the aim of being missed dearly by those who know us once we’re gone. I think that’s right – and that it supersedes any single accomplishment on the CV.
- What are one or two different books or articles that have shaped your life/outlook?
After staring at my bookshelves, I decided it would be too difficult to narrow this down, so instead I’ll tell you what I’m currently rereading: Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, the first two books in Hilary’s Mantel’s trilogy about Thomas Cromwell, which she’s expected to complete with her third installment sometime this year.
