As part of our ongoing series, meet our sales guru, Ben Blackburn
- Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:
I am from the Midwest and have lived in Texas, Utah, and now Colorado. I enjoy traveling and have visited 9 countries outside of the US so far. I really enjoy learning about history and culture, and have been able to see some impactful historical sites like the Vatican, the site of the Berlin wall, and Pompeii to name a few.
- Why Corus? Why market research and consumer insights?
I really believe in what we have created and how it can make research more affordable - which in turn means that companies will be more willing to utilize data science to better serve their customers. I am consistently disappointed in my everyday retail experiences, both with brick and mortar and online retailers. I try to give constructive feedback to the companies that I interact with on a personal level. I believe that the companies who focus more on a positive customer experience and adjusting their services to reflect the true needs of consumers are going to be the ones who thrive in the future.
- If you’re not at work or home, where are you?
I really enjoy hiking, which means Denver is a great place to be for me. I also enjoy going out to the movies to get the full immersive experience that you find in a theatre. Another great part of Denver is all of the local breweries, and on the occasional weekend my wife and I will drive around to try to find one we haven’t yet visited.
- What are one or two different books or articles that have shaped your life/outlook?
I really enjoy the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I’ve read a few of his novels like One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera, along with collections of his short stories. I enjoy his writing style and the idea of magical realism: that there could be more than we realize in the mundane.
